For the last few years, Carson has painstakingly attempted to be on top once again. Although our seasons never ended as planned, and our team was slowly rearranged through different schools, our school never lost its impeccable team spirit. Football is brutal, technical, and is overall a very tough sport that forces you to stay alert on the field. Some of our star players including Brian Keskeys, Joe Torres, and Malcolm Lutu have proven themselves consciously determined and exceptional players. Players like this need a good coach that could lead and motivate players through win and defeat. Academy of Education and Empowerment senior Varsity player Brian Keskeys said, “The team to me is like a family. If a member needs something, it doesn’t matter who or what it might be, the team is always there to help each other be better.” Brian reflects on the previous coach adding, “He was a good coach, but his totalitarian coaching style was frustrating at times and really disrupted the flow of the team in a sense. Small portions of disobedience, no matter what it was, could have anyone benched for the first half of the game regardless of how much the team might need you. He was all about winning, but wasn’t ready to make the emotional sacrifices that would lead the team.” With this being said, it poses quite a few questions about whether or not the team was playing at their full potential. What is it that inspires this new coach to be at Carson High? Is it that he is inspired to lead, or will he attempt to reorganize the team and make it his own? We can’t see what’s to come in the future, but we hope players are encouraged. Carson High School senior Myles Porter just returned to Carson after playing quarterback for Banning High. Myles said, “It wasn’t the same. I missed the team, just not the coach,” he added, “He was holding the team back. There was much needed support that he wasn’t providing, and he was pushing all of the players away.” Carson went through a range of new players, but unfortunately, they also lost quite a few players. Put simply, if the players that are actually from Carson really went to Carson High, we’d be unstoppable. The season is over for our seniors, but we hope next year the new roster can put in work and vibe with their surroundings. Let’s hope nothing goes unsaid, and there is support going to the ideas the players might have.
