Legends Never Die by: Andrea Mayoral January 31, 2017
We've all known Martin Luther King Jr. as an African American role model who had an immense impact in the American Civil Rights Movement from the mid-1950s until his assassination in 1968. He believed in making a difference by peace and endearment and stopped at nothing to achieve justice within our nation. Many students and teachers at Carson Complex don't take January 16th as a day off from school, but rather to remember his legacy. CHS Senior Rudy Cabrera expresses, " I know this day is celebrated to remember Martin Luther King Jr. as a individual who helped end rascism." Rudy further explains, " He was extremely intelligent because he went to college at the age of 15 and he would always be an idol of mine." According to CHS Counseling technician Ms. Nicholson, this day is celebrated to show peace and demonstrate what his dream was really about. She addresses that, "This holiday is not just for African Americans, but rather for all races because at the end of the day we are all united as one." It is always vital to keep Martin Luther King Jr’s legacy alive because he was a man who brought healing and hope to America.
